Gorse Day 2024

The day began at 0900 hrs with the traditional offering of coffee & bacon rolls served by our Head Steward. We set sail in one of Dolphin Travels more antique vessels under the captaincy of 'Jimmy' who is a veteran of these annual excursions. A top speed of twenty knots meant that after an hour we had reached the Queens Head Inn at Blyford. Several brisk pints were taken in order to quench thirst before setting off once again to The White Hart Inn at Blythburgh. Lunch was excellent as were the staff & their hospitality. The mid-afternoon was spent in Southwold at The Lord Nelson where once again many enjoyed the sunshine out in the beer garden. The 200 metre walking race back to the pick up point where 'Jimmy' wasn't waiting was won by the Almoner John Tythcott who just about pipped Stephen Pointer in a photograph finish. The final leg of the day saw us meet up with a couple of members at The Wheel of Fortune at Alpington where further refreshment was required in order to fend of the onset of scurvy from so long spent on the good ship Dolphin. Arriving back at The Club around 8pm saw the harden few finish of the day with one for the road.
