January 2025 Newsletter

Following the Executive Committee meeting in the first week of January 2025 I would like to introduce a bi-monthly 'Newsletter' to keep members informed of matters which we consider they should have knowledge & sight of.

One of the items we are introducing for a three-month trial period this year is a second Friday lunch. Members wishing to bring a guest will have priority. The popularity of these lunches is clear as there are often around 5-10 members on a waiting list. We hope this gives members more opportunity to attend, particularly with a guest who may be interested in joining. Please support this venture if you are able as the first is on February 7th with steak & kidney pie as the main dish. Details of all functions are available on the club website at https://www.thecityclub.co.uk

The House Manager & members of the Executive Committee are faced with the prospect of expenditure on the oven in the kitchen as they weigh up the financial dilemma of service & repair of the current model against purchase of a new / second hand replacement. Under the Club risk assessment of food hygiene & safety in the work place, the kitchen has recently undergone a deep clean to meet these standards. This is a regular process which ensures cleanliness & compliance as the members would expect.

The Executive Committee are looking at ways to increase revenue for the club which will hopefully include different types of functions such as a quiz, race night or casino evening. If you think you would like to hold a birthday party or any type of function, the club is available to hire at very cheap rates to members, subject to the availability being agreed through the house manager. Please make contact with Mr. Frank South in the first instance if you are considering this.

Saturday 11th January saw around 15 members attend the funeral of Reginald Fletcher at St. Faiths. Reg The Fridge was given a great send off by friends & family. It was standing room only with a handful outside unable to squeeze in. An excellent buffet with a drink on Reg was enjoyed afterwards at Wensum Valley Golf & Country Club. Well done to Andrew Breeze on his delivery which formed part of a quartet of speakers relaying their memories of happy times spent in Reg's company. RIP.

A date for your diaries is Wednesday 19th March 2025 at 7pm when the Annual General Meeting will be held. I have attached a copy of the club constitution in which paragraphs 4-13 give details of the processes we adhere to in respect of the nomination of officers. If you have any questions, then please contact me by e-mail on secretary@thecityclub.co.uk and I will endeavour to answer them.

Finally, in the coming weeks we are hoping to be able to give you a date for the annual Gorse Day trip to Southwold. Traditionally it takes place on May 1st but confirmation for 2025 will be with you as soon as we are able. Once again this will be on the club website.
